Hubbell House
Parsonage

When two historic homes were threatened by the wrecking ball, Preserve New Fairfield was born.

This dedicated group of volunteers joined forces with town and state officials to find a new home for these gems. The site, adjacent to the new Senior Center, and overlooking a beautiful millpond, is the perfect spot for a local history museum district.

The buildings were lifted and moved, intact, on huge trailers. Moving day was quite an event with the whole town turning out to watch their own history, literally on the move. The houses were gently placed on their new foundations, located just ¼ mile away from their original sites. The restoration of these antique assets is ongoing as the Hubbell House and Parsonage proudly evolve and grow in their important roles as the first local history museums in New Fairfield. The complex includes plans for heirloom gardens and space to offer a variety of musical performances, historic reenactments and educational programs relating to the social and cultural history of this remarkable corner of Connecticut.
